Whether it is of the three dimensional type or hand painted artwork, birdhouses are popular among country decorators. Slates were once used to roof a house and also made the ideal surface for decorative painting. However they are becoming more difficult to find and do tend to be difficult to hang due to their weight. This faux slate that Mary Sue has base coated a nice black shade, has then been decoratively painted with two similar birdhouses on each end. Both birdhouses have a barn red roof and a country taupe colored bird house among wildflowers. Mary Sue then hand lettered the word "welcome" onto the center of this lightweight faux slate and sealed it for easy cleanup. She then finished the project off with a leather strap making this 11 x 3 inch wall decor ready to hang!
